“Art is a powerful tool which can influence a lot of people, bring positivity to the world and make others to pay attention to the main problems of our time. And specifically because of this artists have to be careful how they use their talent and influence.”

Ilya & Emilia Kabakov 2019

Ilya & Emilia Kabakov (Ilya, born 1933 in Dniproetrovsk, Ukrainian SSR) are Russian - American conceptual artists, both born in Dnipropetrovsk. Ilya worked for thirty years in Moscow, from the 1950s until the late 1980s. They now live and work on Long Island, United States. Throughout their careers, they have co-produced a wide range of paintings, drawings, installations, and theoretical texts — not to mention extensive memoirs that track Ilya’s life from his childhood to the early 1980s. In recent years, they have created installations that evoked the visual culture of the Soviet Union.
